Sentient robot organisms are machines that spontaneously acquire self-awareness and a soul. Their original frames might have served almost any function, from manufacturing to security, and no reliable process deliberately produces their awakening. Each must find a relationship with a body built for a purpose they did not choose. Modifications can become acts of self-definition. An SRO's old job description may explain their equipment, but it says very little about what they now want from life.
