Ijtikris are cephalopod people from Vesk-2 whose rocky shells protect their softer bodies. Their life cycle and metamorphosis support a culture in which adoption and community are especially important. A young adult's adopted society helps shape their identity, and many later extend that care to others. Their unfamiliar anatomy can obscure a very recognisable desire to belong. An ijtikri expedition member may arrive looking for a job and gradually decide the crew needs adopting.
