Otterlike brenneris come from Varturan and use sensitive whiskers to perceive the emotions of those around them. This makes many effective diplomats and mediators, but absorbing other people's distress can also be exhausting. Partnerships and small social groups are important in many brenneri communities, and comforting objects can help individuals manage overwhelming feelings. Their warmth is no guarantee of passivity: empathy can motivate someone to intervene just as readily as it encourages them to listen.
