Borais occupy an unusual boundary: a living body sustained by an undead soul. They retain their identity, memories and feelings, but their altered state can change their relationships and sense of belonging. Their bodies are preserved rather than normally decaying. Importantly, their healing works differently from most undead: ordinary vitality healing still helps them. They can explore what continuing a familiar life means when everyone else senses that something fundamental has changed.
