Androids are synthetic people whose engineered bodies house genuine souls. Many resemble organic humanoids, with circuitry and seams offering clues to their construction, but their identities extend well beyond whoever assembled them. Their history includes exploitation as manufactured servants and the struggle for recognition as people. Today, androids build communities, pursue careers and decide what their lives mean. Factory specifications are particularly poor at answering that last question.
