Verthanis are tall, long-limbed humanoids with large dark eyes and precise control over their skin's colours and patterns. Their home world, Verces, has encouraged ingenuity, collaboration and technological development, including early spaceflight and cybernetics. Skin patterns can express identity, affiliation or emotion as well as provide camouflage. Old social divisions continue to influence a changing modern culture. A verthani's appearance can therefore be a carefully composed statement, occasionally interrupted by an involuntary emotional footnote.
